People often ask me: is therapy worth the cost?
Studies have shown that greater financial investment in therapy is directly related to greater successful outcomes in therapy. Much like a gym membership, getting a massage, or going on vacation, the benefits of therapy can have a tremendous immediate and lasting impact on your wellbeing.
It can be hard justifying spending money on ourselves in therapy. However research has shown time and again that the ability to access mental health care greatly lowers the overall costs of health care in the future, potentially saving you thousands in the long run. This is because all too often, chronic and acute health problems are the result of mismanaged stress and other untreated mental health conditions. It is a fact that too much stress can wreak havoc on our bodies and minds, lowering our overall quality of life.
Therapy can offset long-term costs in numerous areas of life, including in our jobs, in relationships, in physical health, and in your overall quality of life. It is an investment which will pay dividends for years to come.
The bottom line is as my grandfather used to say: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
(NOTE: Therapy should feel like an investment, but it shouldn’t break the bank. Ask about my current sliding scale and insurance options.)
